Caps Its First Ugliest Floors Contest with $9,680 Donation to
Peter Pan Children’s Fund
Manchester, NH (November 21, 2002) – Flooring America
President Evan Hackel recently presented a check for $9,680
to Maureen Lutz, Executive Director of the Peter Pan Children’s
Fund, fulfilling Flooring America’s offer to donate $10
to the charitable foundation for each entry received in their
first nationwide Ugliest Floors Contest.
The Ugliest Floors Contest was a competition in which consumers
submitted photographs of their ugly floors to local Flooring
America showrooms. Cathy Rigby, Flooring America’s spokesperson,
has the honor of soon choosing the Ugliest Floors Contest winner
from among the 968 entries. The winner and the owner of the
store where the winning entry was submitted will each receive
a weeklong trip for two to London.
“Our partnership with the Peter Pan Children’s
Fund will help many children experience happiness, and more
importantly, increase their chances of recovering their health
and becoming productive, independent adults,” said Hackel.
He was pleased with the response to a nationwide contest held
for the first time. “I think our Ugliest Floors Contest
is clearly a winner.”
Lutz was extremely pleased with results of the contest. “This
is a milestone in our efforts to expand the charitable and educational
programs of the Peter Pan Children’s Fund,” she
said. The fund had just launched a drive to increase the number
of affiliated children’s hospitals, which stands at nineteen.
Cathy Rigby, Olympic gymnast and star of the Broadway production
of “Peter Pan,” is also the charity’s Honorary
Chairperson. “I’m proud of my association with each
organization,” said Rigby. “Their cooperation has
done a lot toward advancing the causes of the Peter Pan Children’s
Fund. The two fit perfectly.”
Organized in 1980 in the United States, the Peter Pan Children’s
Fund supports children’s hospitals and medical research
on childhood diseases. It encourages philanthropy by children,
young people, and adults through their programs: The Peter Pan
Birthday Club, The Order of Pan, The Matching Gift, and Neverlanders.
