CARPET ONE FLOOR & HOME HOLDS THEIR 4TH ANNUAL AWARDS GALA
Celebrating the Dedication that makes Carpet One Floor & Home a Success
Houston, TX (January 12, 2008 )— Carpet One Floor & Home announced the recipients
of their company-wide awards at the 4th Annual Awards Gala during their Winter Convention
in Dallas. Carpet One Floor & Home executives presented awards in eleven different
categories, based on enthusiasm, participation, commitment, and sales increase during
the past year.
“We present these awards to our top retailers, business partners, and staff members
to celebrate the outstanding achievements made by Carpet One Floor & Home members,”
says Evan Hackel, President of Carpet One Floor & Home. “I’m proud to recognize
our award recipients’ accomplishments in a gala event each winter.”
“Our award winners have made truly outstanding contributions to Carpet One Floor
& Home,” adds Chief Operating Officer of Carpet One Floor & Home, Eric Demaree.

for their hard work, which makes Carpet One Floor & Home the best in the industry.”
Carpet One Floor & Home presented awards in the following categories:
SPECIAL ACIEVEMENT AWARD
Marc Levy, Modern Flooring Carpet One Floor & Home, New Orleans, LA
This award recognizes a Carpet One Floor & Home member who has made a significant
contribution or accomplished something truly outstanding during the past year. Marc
Levy confronted one of the most catastrophic events in American history, and his
dedication to his employees and to Carpet One Floor & Home kept him on a path toward
progress. Hurricane Katrina displaced his business to an alternate location in Jefferson
Parish that was up and running less than three weeks after the storm. A year before
Katrina I had visited the store and it was one of the nicest in the country. After
Katrina hit, four employees at this store lost everything they owned, while an additional
six employees sustained major damage to their homes. Renovating the showroom and
being able to serve the community as quickly as possible was an important goal for
the entire staff. It kept their spirits up and has been a great inspiration to their
community that they were able to get up and running so quickly. Not only did he
reopen a Destination Carpet One Floor & Home location on May 11, 2007, Levy has
also re-employed his entire pre-Katrina staff. His efforts are not only commendable,
they are inspirational.
WALLY HILEMAN AWARD
Jeffery Ross, Europa Carpet One Floor & Home in Flagstaff, AZ
The Wally Hileman Award was created in honor of Wally Hileman, Carpet One Floor
& Home’s Vice President of Membership from 1991 to 1998, to recognize the pivotal
time of growth that Carpet One Floor & Home experienced during these seven years.
While Wally was the Vice President of Membership, our membership grew by 350% and
retailers from Canada, Australia, and New Zealand joined Carpet One Floor & Home.
The Wally Hileman Award recognizes a retailer that has recently joined Carpet One
Floor & Home. Ross has exhibited an outstanding level of enthusiasm and participated
in many Carpet One Floor & Home programs, shows significant percentage increase
in sales from previous year, and has met National Identity Standards within one
year of becoming a member. In November 2005 this Ross purchased his business from
a member who had only been in Carpet One Floor & Home for a little over a year.
In the two short years since he purchased the store, he has moved to a larger location
and created a Destination Carpet One Floor & Home store.
5-DIAMOND AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
John Taylor, Taylor Carpet One Floor & Home in Fort Myers, FL
This award recognizes the Installation Excellence Five Diamond Carpet One Floor
& Home member who exhibits the most outstanding level of customer relations on a
consistent basis. John Taylor received the highest average score on the customer
satisfaction surveys during the past year, representing the very best in customer
service excellence.
TITANIUM SALES ACHIEVEMENT AWARD—PERCENTAGE
David Connell, Connell Carpet One Floor & Home in Eastman, GA
The Titanium Sales Achievement Awards are given to Carpet One Floor & Home member
who has achieved outstanding increases in sales percentage during the previous year.
TITANIUM SALES ACHIEVEMENT AWARD—DOLLARS
Tom Brewer, Brewer Carpet One Floor & Home in Edmond, OK
This award recognizes the Carpet One Floor & Home member who has shown the greatest
actual increase in purchases from the previous year.
COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD
Cathy Buchanan—Independent Carpet One Floor & Home in Westland, MI
This award goes to the Carpet One Floor & Home member who has made a commitment
to becoming more involved in our communities and to act as a socially responsible
business. Cathy Buchanan is this year’s Community Service Award winner due to their
enthusiastic effort supporting breast cancer research and awareness.
COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION
Commitment to Education Award— Garrick Wiebe , Carpet Colour Centre Ltd. in Red Deer,
AB
This award recognizes the Carpet One Floor & Home member who has made the greatest
commitment to the on-going education of his or her staff during the past year. Garrick
Wiebe has been involved in all forms of education and training and attends University
events with the goal of improving business and graduating 100% of their staff from
the University.
PARTNER FO THE YEAR
Mannington Mills
Each year Carpet One Floor & Home recognizes the organization that has made the
greatest commitment and most significant impact on the Carpet One Floor & Home membership
over the past year. It is important to acknowledge that we ask members to vote for
the Partner of the Year on prior to convention, and we’re happy to report that many
of our partners received praise from members. Carpet One Floor & Home members awarded
Partner of the Year to Mannington Mills provides outstanding customer service to
members and recognizes the entrepreneurial spirit of Carpet One Floor & Home. Providing
a vast assortment of quality products that they have kept out of the big box stores,
this organization has proven with action that they are dedicated to the small business
owner in general and to Carpet One Floor & Home in particular. This organization
is the only Green Select Laminate vendor that we currently have as part of Carpet
One Floor & Home.
THE EILEEN SHAPIRO AWARD
Cathy Salvaggio, Senior Manager of Operations
This award allows Carpet One Floor & Home members and staff to recognize a colleague
for outstanding dedication to Carpet One Floor & Home. Formerly known as the MVP
Award, last year the name was changed in honor of Eileen Shapiro, Carpet One Floor
& Home’s Vice President of Operations. Cathy Salvaggio was the only Carpet One Floor
& Home staff member to move from Georgia to New Hampshire.
CUSTOMER FIRST AWARD
Janneke Smardenkas, Sales Professional, Sidney Inn Carpet One Floor and Home
This award is presented to the sales professional who has gone above and beyond
the call of duty to provide outstanding customer service.
SPIRIT OF CARPET ONE FLOOR & HOME AWARD
Todd Bierl, Bierl Carpet One Floor & Home (Carroll, IA)
This award
recognizes the Carpet One Floor & Home member that most embodies the Carpet One
Floor & Home spirit. It is based on overall participation in Carpet One Floor &
Home programs and is awarded to enthusiastic and involved members who have met national
identity standards. With three locations in Iowa, two of which are new destination
stores, Todd Bierl enthusiastically supports all aspects of Carpet One Floor & Home
and strives to provide customers with a well-rounded and complete shopping experience.
