Floor Covering Retailers Raise over $250,000 to Support Breast Cancer Awareness and Win National “Make A Difference Day” Award This Year
TORONTO, ON (July 30, 2005) – Carpet One stores have a history of serving their communities and supporting causes that are important to their consumers. The cooperative really showed their commitment to community outreach this past year by launching two new cause-related campaigns to help members support two worthy causes and “make a difference” in their communities. Through these campaigns, Carpet One stores not only raised significant funds for breast cancer awareness, but were also nationally recognized for their extraordinary efforts at local elementary schools.
“Carpet One has had a lot of opportunities to contribute to our local communities over the past year,” said Terri Daniels, Vice President of Public Relations & Licensing. “We have received some wonderful feedback from members about our programs and we’re looking forward to continuing our support and improving our community outreach efforts in the future.”
In October 2004, during National Breast Cancer Awareness month, Carpet One kicked-off their “Carpet One Welcomes Your Support” campaign, joining the fight against breast cancer. Carpet One stores donated profits from sales of specially designed welcome mats to their local American Cancer Society chapters and Canadian Cancer Society community offices. The campaign continued in the spring, when Carpet One introduced four new welcome mat designs.
In addition to enhancing breast cancer awareness by distributing information brochures during the campaigns, Carpet One stores raised more than $250,000 to support the cause together. The “Carpet One Welcomes Your Support” campaign will continue this fall and in Spring 2006.
“We are so proud of the time and effort that our stores put into these two campaigns,” commented Evan Hackel, President of Carpet One. “We have demonstrated that, by working together as a group we can truly make a significant impact in the fight against breast cancer. We’re looking forward to continuing our support for this cause in the future.”
Carpet One also participated in USA Weekend Magazine’s “National Make A Difference Day” this past October through their “Carpet One Makes A Difference” campaign. Carpet One retailers completed library and media center makeovers at elementary schools across North America, donating over 80,000 sq. feet of flooring worth over $250,000!
As a result of these outstanding efforts, Carpet One was recognized by USA Weekend Magazine and The Points of Light Foundation with a National “Make A Difference Day” Award. They were allocated $10,000, which Carpet One divided among three schools that were in need of additional renovations and improvements.
Children’s literacy has always been an important cause to Carpet One retailers and the company is planning to continue their efforts to support schools throughout North America this coming year.
