MANCHESTER, NH (October 28, 2004) - Carpet One recently announced that Mike Gawronski of Millers Carpet One in New Castle, Delaware is the overall winner of the Triple Crown Challenge, a sales incentive program open to sales professionals at Carpet One stores throughout the United States and Canada. Gawronski earned the designation as the top Carpet One sales professional in North America by selling more flooring than any other sales associate during the past year. Carpet One awarded Gawronski a check for $10,000 for his accomplishments.

John Umbaugh, the Director of Training for Carpet One, surprised Gawronski by arriving at the store on Thursday afternoon to reveal that he is the overall Triple Crown Challenge winner. Umbaugh, who has been in the flooring business for over 40 years, congratulated Gawronski in person and presented him with his check.

“I have known Mike since he joined Millers Carpet One,” said Umbaugh. “He has been working hard all year to earn this distinction and he truly deserves to be recognized by his colleagues and everyone at Carpet One. Millers Carpet One is very fortunate to have a skilled and enthusiastic sales professional like Mike.”

Gawronski won the first leg of the Triple Crown Challenge, which ended on January 31st, with the greatest sales in a four-month period. Umbaugh presented him with his check for $5,000 at Carpet One’s Winter Convention in Houston, TX.

Carpet One’s Triple Crown Challenge is a sales incentive program that is divided into three legs of four months each. The program began in October of 2003 and ended this past September. Registered Carpet One sales professionals from the U.S. and Canada earned “crowns” for the square footage of exclusive Carpet One brands, such as Liz Claiborne Flooring, Good Housekeeping carpet and LEES For Living, that they sold. Throughout the year, Carpet One has offered sales professionals a range of opportunities to win cash prizes, from being the highest-seller of a designated product during one leg to directing a “mystery shopper” to a featured product.

“The Triple Crown Challenge has been a very successful sales incentive program for Carpet One stores,“ said Dean Marcarelli, Co-COO of Carpet One. “It has motivated sales professionals across the country to achieve excellence in their work. I want to congratulate all of our winners and thank them for their hard work and dedication.”

Carpet One has awarded over $100,000 to ambitious sales professionals like Mike Gawronski of Millers Carpet One in the past year.
